Who has had the biggest Influence on your Career?

My uncle Roy Harrison takes some beating. As a 10-year-old in 1987, I can still remember watching his defiant first innings knock in the Cup Final against Lurgan that dragged us out of a big hole. His utter refusal to get out, despite already getting on in years, has stuck with me since.

What is your most memorable Cricketing moment?

Winning a cliff-hanger of a Junior Cup semi-final against Lisburn at Wallace Park in 2002. Might sound strange to say the semi-final because I went on to captain the team to victory in the final but I’ll never forget the look on Michael Foster’s face as he grudgingly congratulated me at the end. Still absolutely priceless Foz.

What is your funniest Cricketing moment?

Maybe funny is not the right word but watching Robyn McClimond repeatedly running back to his bowling mark during a Minor Cup tie against Downpatrick in the late 1990s. After a couple of overs he politely excused himself and sped out of the ground at about 200mph to go go-karting with his girlfriend! Thankfully a half-century from myself and five wickets from Andrew Gardiner got the 10-men through to the next round.

Who is your favourite International Cricketer, and why?

Brian Lara. I was fortunate enough to be at Bridgetown, Barbados in 1999 when the great man smashed 153 not out to help West Indies to a one-wicket win over Australia in one of the greatest Test matches of all time.

If you didn’t play Cricket, what would you do instead?

Much as I do now, I’d drink a few beers from the sidelines, chat about Glenavon, Saints etc, and shout instructions, place the field, make bowling changes, etc with my know it all attitude generally annoying whichever Waringstown team is playing.

Within WCC who is your Nemesis and who is your bunny? (i.e. who always gets you out and whom do you always get out?)

Before my retirement the sight of Garfield Harrison or Geoff Heyburn bowling on that spinning track in the nets had my legs wobbling. Thank goodness I jacked it in before Kyle and Ijaz arrived...

For some strange and unknown reason my gentle, very occasionally in-swinging left arm seamers used to have the wood on Clive Allen.

What is your most memorable WCC game?

From a fan’s perspective the 2006 Challenge Cup semi-final win over North Down at The Lawn was hard to beat. You’ll have to go a long way before seeing a better match and of course we got the right result at the end. Kyle McCallan’s knock in the Twenty20 final at Comber 2006 was the best Waringstown innings I can remember.

If you were on the pitch what could you offer the 1st Team?

With my legendary strong throwing arm, I can send the ball right over the stumps from any location on the field.
